Have you sent a message to someone on Facebook Messenger and found out that the check mark has gone, so you’re wondering why it happened?
The issue is probably a bug or a beta update that Facebook is testing on Messenger that has replaced the checkmark with a “Sent” and a “Read” caption.
However, there isn’t any news announced by Meta about removing the check mark from Messenger, so it’s just an assumption.
To fix the check mark when it’s gone, you need to uninstall then reinstall the app, and if it doesn’t work, then you need to install an older version of the app; One of the older versions that work fine is version 350.
Keep in mind that downloading an older version of the Facebook Messenger app could be done on Android only.
That’s because iPhone devices aren’t eligible for external downloads.
Today, I will teach you why is the Messenger check mark gone, and how to fix it.
Why Is the Messenger Check Mark Gone?
The Messenger check mark has gone because there is either an update or a bug with the Messenger app that happened after the update has been released.
When any app gets a new update, it may have minor impacts on some of its features.
So it may cause them to stop working.
This means you may see some of the features or a single feature gone, like the check mark on Messenger.
So here are the three possible reasons why the checkmark on Messenger has gone:
- There is a temporary bug on the Messenger app;
- Your phone software isn’t up-to-date;
- Facebook is probably testing a new update on different phone versions to roll it out in the future.
A lot of users are encountering this issue in different models of phones such as iPhones and Android.
Yet, it’s mostly happening on iPhones.
Other Android users downloaded the older version of the app on Android which fixed their issue.
In our case, we’ve used the same Messenger account on Android and on iPhone.
The check mark was gone only on iPhone, but we saw it on Android.
How To Get Back the Check Mark on Messenger?
To get back the Check Mark on Messenger when it’s gone, you need to uninstall and reinstall the app, then try chatting with people again.
In case uninstalling the app doesn’t work, you need to download an older version of the Messenger app.
However, downloading an older version of Messenger could only work on Android phones.
So if you have an iPhone, you can only uninstall and then reinstall the app on your phone.
Here’s how it’s done on Android:
- Uninstall the Messenger app from your phone;
- Visit APKmirror.com website;
- Download the older version for your android by tapping on “Download APK” (The ideal version to solve this issue is 322.214.171.124.17);
- When the download is finished, open the “Files” app on your phone;
- Then go to “Downloads”, and tap on the “Facebook Messenger 3126.96.36.199.17.apk” file to download it, and try using the app again;
This is the best method to apply for Android devices.
Yet, if it doesn’t work, you can try a different Messenger version from the APK Mirror to try to get back the check mark if it’s gone.
Lastly, if none of the methods above worked with you, you need to wait until the issue gets solved by Messenger, or they release a new update.
