Faking your identity or any type of violation that happens on Facebook against you may affect your presence on social media, so you may wonder how to report a fake Facebook account.
As Facebook is strictly careful against mimicking someone’s identity, they take severe action against the persons who impersonate others.
You can understand this fact by reading their Community Standards.
However, there are other reasons that you decide to report an account for.
For example, spammy accounts that are harassing and bullying others and more.
Now, if you decided to report someone on Facebook, there are two ways to do so.
You can do it yourself via your personal account if you are the victim, whereas if you are the parent or relative of the victim, you can file a report.
So today, I will show you how to report a fake Facebook account in 2 ways.
How To Report a Fake Facebook Account
To report someone on Facebook, log in to your account if you are the victim, then open the fake account’s page and tap on the “Three Dots” to report them.
Then, on the popup, you can choose the reason why you are reporting them.
In our tutorial today, we will show you how to report someone’s Fake account that pretends to be you.
However, if you are the parent or friend of the victim, you can file a report.
So after submitting your appeal on the report page, there is another page where you can follow the statement of the report.
1.Open the target Facebook account
Then open the fake Facebook account of the person that you want to report.
However, you can also report a fake page if you want to.
But there are 8 more options in the report menu of a page.
So you use your PC if you want to, but in our case, we will be using an iPhone.
2.Tap on the “Three Dots”
After opening the fake account, you can start the reporting process.
So on their profile page, tap on the “Three Dots” icon.
Then a new page will show up, which is the “Manage” page.
On that page, you can optionally copy the link of the profile by tapping on “Copy Link”.
Then send it to multiple friends via WhatsApp or share it as a story on your Instagram or Facebook so that they can also report the account.
However, reporting the account multiple times from different people may help you to accelerate the Facebook support reaction.
But your reports have to be genuine and honest.
Because there are real people behind, who are checking your report.
3.Select the violation
Now that you’ve opened the “Manage” page, tap on the “Find support or report profile”.
Then a new popup will show up with multiple options.
On this popup, you can select the violation that the fake account made on Facebook.
So depending on the case, you can narrow your selection to the first 3 options.
These options are “Pretending to Be Someone”, “Spam or harmful”, “Not Using a real name”, but on some accounts, you may see “Fake Account”, “Fake Name” in the 2nd and 3rd options.
But the results are the same.
In our case, we will choose the first option, as we believe that a fake account is an account that is impersonating the identity of someone else.
However, you can choose and submit a report on the “Fake Account” option.
4.Submit the Report
When you are on the “Report” menu, tap on the first option, which is “Pretending to Be Someone”.
Then a new popup will show up.
On this popup, there are 3 options which are, “Me”, “A Friend”, “Celebrity”.
So if you select “A Friend” or “Celebrity”, you will have to add their account or name on the search box.
Then submit the report.
In our case, we will pick the “Me” option.
After tapping on the “Me” option, you will be redirected to a new page.
So on that page, tap on the “Submit” button.
Then a new page will open showing the status of the report, which is under review by the Facebook support team.
Now click on the “Next” button, then the last page will show up so that you can block the person or hide everything from them.
Then hit the “Done” button to go back to your profile page.
Therefore, you have to wait until you receive a notification on your Facebook.
So this is how you report a fake Facebook account that pretends to be you.
5.File a report as an extra report
Now there is an extra report method, which can be done by you directly.
Whereas, if you are the friend of the victim or their parents, you can file this report also.
But it’s dedicated to people who don’t have a Facebook account and want to report a Fake Facebook account.
So first, visit the “Report an Impostor Account” page.
Then start by selecting the 3rd option in the first section, which is “Someone creed an account pretending to be me or a friend”.
After that, on the next question “Do you have a Facebook account” select the “No” option.
Then on the third section, select “Yes, I am the person being impersonated”.
Therefore, you will see new empty fields that will show up.
So you have to add all the necessary information.
Then upload your ID to help Facebook support to understand that it’s you, which will facilitate and accelerate the process.
Finally, click on the blue “Send” button to submit your report file.
What Happens When You Report a Fake Account on Facebook
When you report a fake account on Facebook, you will get a notification from the support team that your report is under review.
Then they will take direct action in case they violated the Facebook Community Standards.
But it’s only in the case of reporting a fake account that’s pretending to be someone.
Now, if you report an account for other violations or issues, you will get a notification that the report is done.
Therefore, Facebook support will take your report into consideration and if there is something that’s against their Terms, the account will get suspended.
How Long Does It Take Facebook To Remove a Fake Account
It takes from 24 hours to 72 hours to react with your report, but sometimes it may take 5 minutes.
This usually happens if you are reporting an account that pretends to be someone else.
In our case, Facebook sent us an answer after few minutes only after submitting the report.
So, when you submit or file a report, you may receive a quick answer, but sometimes it may take longer, like 24 hours.
However, you can check the status of the report by going to “Menu>Help & Support>Support Inbox>Reports About Others”.

Yes, if you report someone on Facebook, you will remain anonymous.
So if the target account got disabled or suspended, they will not be able to see who reported them.
Moreover, Facebook will email them that their account was disabled because of violating their rules.
When you see that someone is impersonating you or your friend’s identities, you have to take action right away.
Therefore, Facebook support will process the report quickly and remove the impersonated account.
But you have to choose the case that fits your situation the most.
Otherwise, you may end up reporting other issues that are not related to your situation, which may let Facebook support abandon your report.
