After uninstalling the app, you need to download Facebook Messenger 261.0.0.21.119 manually from this link, then log in to it, and update the app from the Play Store.

You can try older versions if the one above doesn’t work.

Here’s the method step by step:

  1. Uninstall all the Facebook and Messenger apps from your phone;
  2. Download the Messenger 261.0.0.21.119 APK version manually;
  3. Log in with the app you’ve installed;
  4. Go to the Play Store and update the app;
  5. Launch the new Messenger.

Keep in mind that this method works only with Android devices.

So if you’re encountering the issue on your iPhone, you’ll have to use another device, or simply try switching to an Android device.

Note: Don’t log in to any new accounts using the new Messenger app, otherwise, this will disrupt the app, and you’ll have to repeat all the steps above.

To clear the Cache of your Messenger, there are two methods, which are for Android and iPhone devices.

However, clearing the cache on your Messenger might not help in fixing the “Something went wrong” error, yet, it’s worth a try.
