So you’ve been scrolling on the Facebook feed and suddenly got a “You are currently offline” message?

Facebook app is mostly used by Android users, and errors may occur earlier on Android devices than on iPhones.

That’s because Android has at least 20 different OS (Operating Systems).

If you’re an Android user, the probability that you may encounter this issue is higher than iPhone users.

Now the top two reasons why you’re receiving the “You are currently offline” message is either the Power Saving mode is turned ON exclusively for Facebook, or your Date & Time are wrong; by turning OFF the Power Saving mode and checking your phone’s Date & Time, the issue will be resolved.

So today, I will teach you how to fix the “You are currently offline” error on Facebook.

How To Fix ”You Are Currently Offline” on Facebook

To fix the “You are currently offline” error on Facebook, you need to turn OFF the Power Saving Mode on Facebook by switching it to unrestricted.

Then you need to check your phone’s Date & Time if it’s incorrect.

If this is the case, you need to simply open the clock on the Settings.

Then sync them to your actual timezone.

After trying these two fixes but none of them work, it’s better to consider troubleshooting your device’s technical issues.

1.Set the Power Saving Mode to “Unrestricted”

Turn OFF the power saving mode to fix the "You are currently offline" error on Facebook

This method works only for Android devices, so if you have an iPhone, continue to the next method.

To switch the Battery saving mode on Android, open the Settings page.

Then navigate to the “Apps” page, where all your phone’s apps are located.

After that, you need to find the “Facebook” app by scrolling down or searching for it.

Once you find the app, tap on it to open the app settings page, and tap on “Power usage details”.

Now tap on “Launch Settings”, then on the popup, switch OFF the “Manage automatically” option.

This option is responsible for reducing the power usage of your device for unnecessary launches.

So this is one of the reasons you might get the “you are currently offline” error on Facebook.

2.Check your phone’s Date & Time

Adjust Date & Time to the actual timezone

The next thing to do is to check if your phone’s Date & Time is synced to your actual timezone.

If you believe that it’s not set to the right time, you need to change it from the Settings page.

To do so:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings page, then tap on the “General management” option.;
  2. Then tap on “Date and time” on the new page.;
  3. Now turn ON the “Automatic date and time” option.

Keep in mind that the “Settings” may differ as there are multiple OS systems.

Yet, if you can’t find the date and time, simply type it in the Search box on any device’s Settings page and search for “Date & Time”.

3.Restart your device

Restart your phone to fix the "You are currently offline" error on Facebook

If you’ve tried both methods above and still getting the same error, there might be a technical issue with your phone.

It doesn’t mean that your phone is out of service or needs to be factory reset.

However, the best way to understand if there is a technical issue with your phone is to restart it.

To restart your phone, you need to push and hold the power button and tap on “Restart” on Android phones.

For iPhones, you need to tap and hold on the “Power” button to turn OFF the phone then turn it ON again and try using Facebook.

4.Reinstall the app or update it if necessary

Uninstall then reinstall Facebook

Some users reported that the issue was solved after uninstalling or updating the app.

It’s important to first update the Facebook app when there is an issue with the app files, as you might receive the “You are currently offline” message.

Not only this, but you may also get the “You can’t use reaction right now” error.

In some cases, your phone may not update the Facebook app automatically.

So you need to open the Play Store or the App Store and check if there is an update to do so.

Now if updating hasn’t worked, you need to uninstall and reinstall the app.

5.Change the Wi-Fi connection or the Device

Change Wi-Fi network or the device itself

The final shot is to change your Wi-Fi connection or either use another device than yours.

This is a convenient task for such a situation as your phone may have a technical issue that needs to be solved.

So first, try to use another Wi-Fi network or switch your phone to 4G or 5G and try opening the Facebook app again.

If you receive the “You are currently offline” error, you need to use another phone to solve this issue.

Why Does Facebook Say You Are Currently Offline?

When you receive the “You are currently offline” error, this is either because the Power Saving Mode is ON in your Facebook app’s settings, or your phone’s Date & Time are incorrect.

When the Power Saving Mode is on, Facebook tries to reduce the usage of all the elements that may affect the battery life including the internet connection.

This is why you may encounter that issue.

Now if your phone Date & Time are wrong, the Facebook app fails to sync both of them with the exact time zone, which leads to getting that message.

Can Facebook Be Used Offline?

No, the Facebook app can’t be used completely in offline mode, yet, you may be able to use the app with its limited offline resources.

For example, you can still see some posts and comments that Facebook has loaded the last time you were online.

Once your phone loses the internet connection, the “You are currently offline” message will occur.

Conclusion

Facebook always loads its cache when you’re browsing the app in online mode, which helps you to get a quick overview of the posts that you’ve missed.

Especially if you’re living in a poor internet coverage area.

However, if you’ve encountered the “You are currently offline” error on Facebook, make sure to take a look at the status of the Power Mode option on Facebook in the settings.

Keep in mind that a wrong timezone may lead to the latter error.

So today, you’ve learned how to fix the “You are currently offline” error on Facebook.
